Food is essential not only for our bodies, but also for our souls. This week is an extension of that project through gardening at the school. However, it is also open to other students if they are interested. Ms. Allen and I have found common ground through gardening and community food access, and will focus on the connection between the land and our food as well as the ways in which gardening can be a source of independence and a step towards self-sufficiency.
This week, students will learn about how they can grow food for themselves and their families. They will also see local farmers and community organizers' work to make fresh, healthy food accessible to all communities--especially those who may find it difficult to access a grocery store.
